I. NOMINATIONS FOR AWARDS

Lighthouse Activator of the Year 2010

The Amateur Radio Lighthouse Society ( http://arlhs.com ) presents an annual award to the ham who has done the most during the previous year to promote the activation of any of the world's nautical light beacons. The award consists of an etched brass plaque mounted on a wood base. Go here to see the 2009 plaque to the winner, KA3UNQ, Jim Elliott.

Criteria for selection are not necessarily based solely on the number of activations, but include also the rarity of the beacons activated during the previous year, the technical difficulties in activating the beacons, the remoteness of the beacons, etc.

Winners are selected by a majority vote of the ballots submitted to the ARLHS.
Only one vote per person is permitted.
Votes should be sent via E-Mail to the President at president@arlhs.com or by postal mail to:

ARLHS Hdqtrs
114 Woodbine Ave

Any licensed amateur anywhere in the world is qualified for the award, but winners from previous years are not qualified. Submitted votes should include the nominee's call, name, address, and e-mail address (if available). A brief paragraph (50 words max) describing why the nominee should receive the award CAN be included but it is optional. If requested, the paragraph will be printed with the nominee's listing but at the editor's discretion paragraphs will be edited for space, etc.; that is, at the editor's discretion, paragraphs exceeding 50 words may be truncated to the first 50 words.

Dan — KD3CQ — votes = 8

KD3CQ — I have seen first hand that he is extremely active in the ARLHS. Every chance he can get he’s out there working the lighthouses & searching for ones that he hasn’t done before. Most nights when he can, he’s out in his barn contacting as many as he can. He also researches the Lighthouses themselves so he can learn more about the ones he contacts/or others contact him about. During ham fests he proudly displays his ARLHS Banner & talks to many people about it so he advertises it as well every show he does [snip]

2. Whitey -- K1VV -- votes = 2

K1VV -- Well known as part ot the Cape Crusaders duo, Whitey has activated more lighthouses on Cape Cod than any other member. He is a frequent contributor of articles to The Lighthouse Lens and has had many articles and stories of his exploits printed in newspapers and newsletters (see back issues of The LL. He has also participated in Museum Ships and Marconi Day activations.

3. Luis -- LU6VOQ -- votes = 1

LU6VOQ -- My name is Luis N. Montefiore, ham amateur since 1987; and we always activate "Faro Segunda Barranca AR 0067" In Argentina since 2001. We hope to clasify to Award Activator of the Year 2010.

4. Patty -- W5AZO -- votes = 9

W5AZO -- Whenever anyone hears this XYL on the bands radiating with a certain joy and cheerfulness in her voice, they know it is Patty- W5AZO. During the pile-ups and between exchanges one will hear distant voices calling “Hello Patty”. Her enthusiasm of what Amateur Radio and activating lighthouses is all about- promoting the history and preservation of lighthouses and remembering the men and women who served as keepers of these light stations- is self evident. When taking a break from operating the radio, she meets and greets curious people passing by. [snip] Newspaper reporters have written stories [about her].

5. Jim -- K2JXW = (declined nomination)
6. Bob -- VE1REC = (declined nomination)
7. KD0ETC -- votes = 1

KD0ETC -- My vote is for Steve KD0ETC for his many multiple lighthouse activations. Good signals always and a joy to work.
