HERBERT
Dr. Edward W., 61, of East Stroudsburg, PA, lost his valiant 2 year battle against an insidious and aggressive form of cancer called liposarcoma on Monday, June 4, 2001. He was the loving husband of J. Gisele Herbert for the past 29 years and a devoted father to Shannon Dawn, 24 and Ashley Star, 15, at home. Born on April 7, 1940 in Philadelphia, PA he was the son of the late Francis J. Herbert, Sr. and Louise (Marchant) Herbert Baker and stepson of Henry Baker, of Stroudsburg, PA. Surviving him are a brother, Francis J. Herbert, of Medway, MA, six nieces, three nephews, and a grand nephew. Prior to retiring from education in 1994, he was Superintendent of Schools in the North Warren Regional High School District in Blairstown, NJ, for 15 years. Before that, he was Assistant Superintendent of Schools for the Gloucester City School District in NJ, where he also began his career as a 6th grade teacher in 1966. In addition, he had been the Administrative Principal of the Brooklawn School District in South Jersey. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Salina, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VNA/ Hospice of Monroe County who were so wonderful in caring for Ed these last few weeks. Funeral services will be held on Thursday June 7, at 3:30pm in the Mountainview Mausoleum at Prospect Cemetery Rt. 80 East Stroudsburg, PA with the Brig. Henry Baker officating.
